Precision shaft machining What is the proper sequence? For the manufacturing industry, orders are extremely important, as they directly affect product quality assurance. If an order contains errors, it can easily lead to significant losses—severely, it may even require starting from scratch. A less severe consequence is that these products will be scrapped; precision shaft machining is one such example. So, what exactly is the correct procedure?

1. The arrangement of the machining sequence for precision shafts should be determined based on the part’s structure, the condition of the blank, and the requirements for positioning and clamping. The key is to avoid compromising the workpiece’s rigidity.
(1) The machining in the preceding process must not affect the positioning and clamping of the subsequent process; the intermediate operations are generally interspersed. Precision shaft machining The process steps must be considered comprehensively.
(2) First, machine the internal cavity; then, machine the external shape.
(3) The same positioning, clamping methods, or the same tooling processes should be used to minimize the number of times workpieces need to be repositioned, tools need to be changed, and clamping plates need to be moved.
(4) In the same installation, for multiple processes carried out sequentially, those processes that cause less rigid damage to the workpiece should be scheduled first. Precision part machining.
Second, the tool-concentrated sorting method divides operations based on the tools used, with each tool being employed to machine all parts that can be completed by that particular tool. The second and third tools are then used to complete other parts that they can handle. This approach reduces the number of tool changes, minimizes idle time, and decreases unnecessary positioning errors.
III. For Precision shaft machining For parts with complex geometries, the machining process can be divided into several sections based on their structural characteristics—for example, internal shapes, external shapes, curved surfaces, or flat surfaces. Generally, it’s best to machine the flat surfaces and positioning surfaces first, followed by the holes; start with simpler geometric shapes and then move on to more complex ones; and process parts with lower precision requirements for precision shafts before tackling those with higher precision demands. This is precisely the recommended sequence for precision shaft machining. You must follow these rules carefully—doing so will significantly reduce your processing risks.
