  1. Anhui Sheet Metal Fabrication and Processing – Material Cutting

Material cutting involves shaping the material into the desired form based on its unfolded layout. There are many methods available, which can be categorized according to the type of machine tool and its operating principle as shearing, punching and cutting, and laser cutting.

1.1 Cutting—Accuracy in cutting the required shapes using a cutting machine

Up to 0.2 mm in size, it is primarily used for cutting strips or nets.

1.2 Punch Press—Materials for CNC punch presses (NC) or conventional punch presses. Both feeding methods can achieve a precision of 0.1 mm or better; however, the former method tends to leave cutting marks, resulting in relatively lower efficiency. The latter method has lower efficiency but higher per-unit costs, making it more suitable for mass production.

1.2.1 The CNC punch press fixes the upper and lower dies, while the worktable moves to cut the sheet metal and produce the desired workpiece shape. Our company’s CNC punch presses are mainly of two types: Taiwan’s Lifu and AMADA.

1.2.2 A conventional press works by the movement of upper and lower dies, using a punching die to shape the material into the desired form. To achieve the required shape through punching, the conventional press must be used in conjunction with a shearing machine: First, the material is cut into strip-shaped pieces using scissors, and then the punching die shapes the material into the desired form.

1.3 Laser Cutting—This process uses laser cutting equipment to perform continuous cutting on sheet materials, thereby shaping the material. It is characterized by high precision and the ability to process extremely complex shapes; however, it involves relatively high processing costs for certain materials.

  2. Anhui Sheet Metal Fabrication and Processing - Formation

Sheet metal forming is one of the primary processing methods in sheet metal fabrication. Forming processes can be categorized into two types: manual forming and machine forming. Manual forming is seldom used as a primary processing method but rather as an auxiliary or finishing operation. However, when working with materials that have complex shapes or are prone to deformation, manual forming remains indispensable. Manual forming is carried out using simple tools. The main techniques employed include bending, edge grinding, edge chamfering, bending, edge grinding, and shaping. Here, we will focus primarily on machine forming—namely, bending and stamping.

2.1 Bending Forming—The upper and lower dies are fixed respectively to the upper and lower worktables of the folding bed. A servo motor drives the relative motion of the worktables, and by combining the shapes of the upper and lower dies, sheet metal can be bent and formed. The bending forming accuracy can reach 0.1 mm.

2.2 Stamping—This process uses the power generated by a motor to drive a flywheel, which in turn rotates the upper die. By leveraging the relative shapes of the upper and lower dies, the sheet metal is deformed, enabling the machining of materials and parts. Stamping accuracy can reach above 0.1 mm. Punch presses can be categorized into conventional punch presses and high-speed punch presses.

3, Anhui Sheet Metal Fabrication and Processing - Sheet metal connection

The connections for ventilation ducts and sheet-metal components can be made using methods such as interlocking, riveting, or welding. This section primarily focuses on interlocking joints.

The edges of two pieces of paper (or both sides of a single material) are folded and interlocked so that they press tightly against each other. This joining method is called a “bite.” Sheet-metal joints involve connecting different materials and components in a specific manner to produce the desired product. Sheet-metal joining methods can be categorized as: welding, riveting, threaded connections, and others.
