We know that machining, according to the object being processed, is divided into standard part machining and... Non-standard part machining Relatively speaking, standard parts are easier to machine, while non-standard parts are more challenging to process. Many people aren't clear about what constitutes a standard part and what qualifies as a non-standard part.

First, non-standard parts are distinguished from standard parts. Before understanding non-standard parts, it is essential to know what standard parts are. Standard parts refer to commonly used components—such as threaded fasteners and rolling bearings—that have been fully standardized in terms of their structure, dimensions, drawing conventions, markings, and other aspects, and are manufactured by specialized factories. In a broad sense, standard parts include standardized fasteners, connectors, transmission components, seals, hydraulic components, pneumatic components, bearings, springs, and other mechanical parts. In a narrow sense, however, they refer exclusively to standardized fasteners. The term “standard parts,” commonly used in China, is an abbreviation for “standard fasteners” and represents the narrow definition; yet, the broader definition cannot be ruled out. Moreover, industry-standard products such as automotive standard parts and mold standard parts also fall under the category of broadly defined standard parts.

Experts in the processing of non-standard parts primarily point out that the country has not established strict standard specifications. Aside from the absence of specific parameter requirements, enterprises have free control over other components. Non-standard parts come in many varieties, and currently there is no highly standardized classification system. The general categories are as follows: :

Metal non-standard parts :

The customer provides drawings, and the manufacturer uses equipment to produce the corresponding products according to these drawings. Typically, there are many molds involved, and the customer specifies tolerance requirements and cleanliness standards; there is no fixed mold design. From casting to final machining, the entire production process requires rigorous quality control. The process is complex and highly variable, and the overall cost is generally higher than that of standard parts.

Non-metallic non-standard components :

This refers to the machining of certain non-metallic materials, such as plastics, wood, and stone. In recent years, the development of plastic molds has become increasingly sophisticated, with advancements in curved-surface design, CNC programming, and the adoption of non-standard machining techniques, leading to significant improvements in both cost and tolerance levels.
